Exciting Sidebar Events Around 29PBF

During the two-day festival, a series of exciting sidebar events will take place around town, offering unique experiences in iconic locations. With limited seating available for each event, festival goers are encouraged to to secure their spots. From gripping noir fiction to immersive poetry readings, these events are designed to extend the festival’s creative spirit, blending local culture, literature, and live performances.

HAPPY POETRY HOUR | Saturday, November 9th, from 4 to 6 PM at the 29 Palms Inn.  Set against the serene backdrop of the inn’s charming patio, this event will feature thirteen poets sharing their work in a relaxed, intimate atmosphere. Participating poets include Ben Allanoff, Nadia Clark, Rosemarie Dombrowski, Nadine Lockhart, Francene Kaplan, Nikki Rawnsley, Cindy Rinne, John Sierpinski, Damien Gossett, Scott Shigeoka, Joanna Szachowska, Kurt Schauppner, and Mike Vail. Hosted by Joshua Tree Voice Arts Writer, Katie Nartonis, the Happy Poetry Hour offers a chance to experience a diverse range of poetic voices, both local and visiting, in a welcoming community setting. Join us for an evening of reflection, expression, and connection through poetry.

Noir in the Boneyard - Twentynine Palms Public Cemetery, Friday Nov. 8th, 7 PM – 9 PM
In collaboration with Starlite Pulp, Noir in the Boneyard will offer a haunting literary experience at the Twentynine Palms Public Cemetery. Pulp noir, with its gritty tales of crime and adventure, will be brought to life through readings by celebrated and emerging writers, set against the atmospheric backdrop of the desert night.

Mojave Noir - 29 Palms Visitor Center, Friday, November 8, 7 PM – 9 PM
Returning for its second year, Mojave Noir brings together local and Southern California crime writers to share their dark, gripping stories, accompanied by live atmospheric music. Co-hosted by author Gabriel Hart, this event also benefits Mil-Tree, a veteran outreach organization, blending storytelling with community impact.

Red Light Lit - Mas o Menos, Friday Nov 8 - 7 PM – 9 PM
This experimental event blends poetry, prose, and live music, creating a sensory experience that pulls the audience into the intimate worlds of its performers. With over 300 shows produced in cities like Austin and LA, RED LIGHT LIT is known for its raw and powerful performances, making this event a highlight of the festival.

Hollywood Meets the Desert - Mas o Menos, Saturday Nov. 9, 9 PM
Close out the festival with Hollywood Meets the Desert, a networking event where authors, filmmakers, and local production talent can connect. Presented by Shoot in 29 Palms, this gathering celebrates desert stories ready to be adapted for the screen, offering a relaxed space for creative discussions and drinks.
